System: Thief

Kairo survived by stealing what could fit in his hands. Then the System taught him that almost anything can be taken.

Story record · The Dregs

A thief before he ever had a System.

Kairo begins at eight: an orphan from the Dregs, morally gray, self-serving, and practical because idealism has never fed him. His inner voice is functional rather than theatrical. Hunger, risk, and the next safe place to sleep matter before heroism does.

The power that arrives does not replace those instincts. It magnifies them. Touch can become theft, and theft can reach into the structures that make another creature faster, stronger, longer-lived, or uniquely dangerous.

System record · Theft rules

The smallest touch can change a build.

Precision requires time. Power acquired once can change again when the same thing is stolen twice.

Touch

Brief contact

A quick touch can trigger theft without giving Kairo exact control over what is taken.

Focus

Chosen theft

More deliberate contact gives intention a greater role in the target of the theft.

The deeper expression of the gift can reach stats, abilities, passives, and even lifespan.

Repeat

Duplicates merge

Taking a skill Kairo already carries is not always waste. Duplicate abilities can merge or upgrade what is already there.

Every advantage creates a new question: what is worth touching when the target can touch back?

System record · Earned thresholds

Progress opens tools, not safety.

The System’s milestones turn survival into a growing economy of choices.

Level 05

Dimensional Storage

Unlocked for collecting and carrying what the wilderness would otherwise force Kairo to leave behind.

Level 10

Crafting

A new layer of self-sufficiency: stolen power is no longer the only way to turn raw material into advantage.

Level 30

Thief’s Network

The shop opens. Its currency is earned through theft and scaled by the difficulty of the target rather than by ordinary coin.

Difficulty economy

Small, low-risk thefts may be worth a point. A dangerous high mage can be worth far more. A dragon sits at the far end of the scale—an example measured around a thousand points. The System rewards danger because danger makes theft meaningful.

Chapters 3–49 · Four years outside

The wilderness becomes his second childhood.

The accepted structure gives each wilderness year twelve chapters. It is not a montage; it is the long machinery that turns a street thief into someone who can enter the larger world on different terms.

Year I · Ch. 3–14

Learning to hunt

Chapter Three alone contains five hunts, including one deliberately dangerous encounter. Kairo begins learning from animals and monsters because there is no safer teacher.

Year II · Ch. 15–26

Living with the System

The wilderness gives the theft rules room to compound. Storage, resources, and repeated encounters make every choice part of a longer build.

Year III · Ch. 27–38

Experiment becomes method

Years of repetition turn improvised survival into a body of habits. What Kairo can take matters less than learning when taking it is worth the risk.

Year IV · Ch. 39–49

Ready to leave

The final wilderness year closes the distance between a child hiding from the world and a survivor capable of approaching civilization again.

Chapter 50 · The capital threshold

Four years later, walls return to the horizon.

The wilderness saga ends with Kairo leaving for a fortified main capital. Civilization means books, trade, institutions, people, and systems of power far more complicated than anything that could be stalked through trees.

For a thief whose gift improves through contact, a city is opportunity measured in consequences.
