Great Beasts

A Great Beast is a living cosmic being. The body seen in normal space may be only one part of a much larger life spread across several layers of reality.

Anatomy · The first question

What is a Great Beast made of?

There is no single material shared by every Great Beast.

“Body” is useful, but it does not tell the whole story. The part a witness sees may be solid enough to wound or protect while the rest of the creature extends through currents, pathways, and hidden layers of reality.

01

Visible body

The part in normal space can be seen, tracked, touched, wounded, protected, or killed. It may already dwarf a world or star and still be only part of the whole Beast.

02

Body beyond normal space

Other parts may extend through the Auric Flow, Nyxian Torrent, the Veil, Luminarch paths, or older layers of reality. Size and distance in normal space do not always describe the full body.

03

Prime connection

Some Great Beasts are strongly tied to Starblood or a Prime Element. That connection tells us which cosmic force the Beast touches. It does not tell us what every bone, scale, feather, or organ is made from.

Size · Four classes

Four ways a Beast can be vast.

A scale class answers one simple question: how much space is affected when the Beast lives, moves, feeds, sleeps, or wakes?

Kind · Nine orders

Nine recognized Great Beast orders.

Class tells you how large its reach is. Order tells you what kind of Great Beast it is and the traits by which people recognize it.

Civilization contact

Meeting one does not mean owning one.

Great Beasts can be watched, contacted, wounded, healed, protected, redirected, bargained with, or killed. The relationship is measured by what happens afterward, not by who claims the creature as property.

Covenant

A promise, ritual duty, or pact between a civilization and a Beast. Some covenants outlive the people who first made them.

Migration

A Beast's movement can change routes, skies, faiths, trade, war plans, and the fate of whole star systems.

Study & protection

Some people observe, heal, shelter, or defend a Beast without claiming to own it.

Wound, bargain, redirect

Civilizations may use force, negotiation, sacrifice, or changed routes to survive an encounter. Every method can create consequences as large as the Beast itself.
