Vastus Wars archive · Threats

Danger is not one kind of thing.

A wound in reality, a crusading army, a civilization-ending hunger, and a Great Beast may all threaten worlds. The archive keeps those meanings separate because survival begins with naming the danger honestly.

Hostile entities · Universal threats

Some enemies take territory. Others change the meaning of survival.

“Universal Threat” is a danger rating. It can describe a cosmic wound, an army, a religious horror, or something that still cannot be clearly classified. It does not mean all Universal Threats are the same kind of thing.

01Cosmological wound

Abyssal Rift

The Abyssal Rift is a wound in reality. Conditions near it change as the breach spreads pressure into the surrounding cosmos. It can endanger whole regions and is not the same thing as Veilborn’s Rift.

02Universal threat

DreadBorn

DreadBorn is a name attached to a major threat that witnesses still cannot describe in one agreed way. People agree that the danger is real long before they agree on exactly what carries the name.

03Religious horror

Choir of Unlight

The Choir of Unlight is a civilization-level threat tied to collective song, anti-radiant belief, and religious horror. Its united voice is better documented than the exact nature of whatever produces it.

Great Beasts · Living cosmic scale

A visible body may be only the smallest part of the Beast.

Enter the Great Beast Codex →

Great Beasts are rare cosmic beings whose visible bodies can dwarf worlds or stars. The part seen in normal space may be only a fraction of the whole. Other parts can extend through the Auric Flow, Nyxian Torrent, Veil, Luminarch paths, or deeper layers of reality.

Recognized orders · 9

Scale tells you how vast. Order tells you what kind.

The Codex separates Great Beast scale from Great Beast nature, giving every recognized order its own entry.

Encountering a Great Beast

Relation, not ownership.

Civilizations may protect, study, wound, redirect, bargain with, or bind a Great Beast by covenant. None of those relationships make the creature ordinary.

Covenant

A promise, ritual duty, or pact between a civilization and a Beast. Some covenants outlive the people who first made them.

Migration

A Beast's movement can change routes, skies, faiths, trade, war plans, and the fate of whole star systems.

Study & protection

Some people observe, heal, shelter, or defend a Beast without claiming to own it.

Wound, bargain, redirect

Civilizations may use force, negotiation, sacrifice, or changed routes to survive an encounter. Every method can create consequences as large as the Beast itself.
